Curiosity
Driving down the highway, long past midnight in the uncanny timeless hours of the morning, a peculiar landmark catches your eye. You park up and walk closer, ignoring the old decrepit signs telling you to stay away. You climb through a wire fence and walk inside a mysterious structure, only for the door to close unexpectedly behind you.
If you are to survive, you must escape this structure, but first you must understand it.
Use arrow keys to move. Up to jump.
Use Z to interact.
Keep pen and paper handy. Make sure sound is on.
Experiment.

Awesome! Just finished it, took me about 30 minutes but I once I got some momentum up it everything just sort of... slotted into the right place...
I have 2 problems:
1 ) I had to guess the code for the room with the white, blue, and yellow sticks; am I missing something?
2 ) Once you enter the room with the giant blue circle-like shape, what do you do?
If you have to guess any solution, that means you've probably missed something that you might need to know for later - I'd recommend going back to that room and trying to find the solution the intended way. You need to use an item to find the solution.
I’m absolutely stumpted. I’ve found what I think is a clue (the 4 levers/lights pointing in different directions) but I don’t understand the hint!
checking the map repeatedly might be good to figure stuff out :-)
Im sorry, but I still don‘t understand it! I’ve looked everywhere, but I can’t find any hints that I understand! What am I missing? Is there something I’m doing wrong?
use the scope in any possible direction :-)
If that's what I think, that isn't a clue. There is a solution to the code that should be very self explanatory when you find it. Anyway - the next thing you need to do is figure out what all the buttons in the blue circle room are doing. You need to observe what changes when you hit the buttons. It may look like nothing changes but something is happening!
So I changed the symbol from the blue circle to the ——| symbol, went to the corresponding room, (the one where you find the telescope) but I didn’t see anything different. I tried it with some other symbols too. What is supposed to happen?
okay, now I know a sequence of 3 different color settings.
not sure what to do about that though :-)
too bad itch doesnt have private messages as I dont wanna show the solution to just everyone...
¯\_(ツ)_/
I am completely stuck. only got the first item.
more or less looked at every room with the thing but I dont see how I can advance anywhere.
everywhere cul de sacs (dont the 'Muricans have their own word for that, not that french crap?)
and the only path has the c things where I dont know what to do :-/
Hi - you should try using the item you got in the room where you said you don't know what to do. See if you can look where you may have assumed you cannot. The solution to the room will be quite self-evident when you find it.
Wait, z does stuff! :O
I totally didnt get that both you could interact with stuff and that there was stuff to be interacted with.
now that explains a lot :-)
I did get quite a bit further. saw everything, went everywhere, understand how it basically works.
only thing I still dont see how to get all 6 thingies to do their thingie.
And how to actually escape.
It might help you to think where you have seen those 6 lights before.
I know.
but I still dont get it.
was literally the first thing I have seen.
no idea what exactly triggers them.
6 in a line cant be true due to not enough space :-)
Hmm - I hadn't come this issue before, thanks for highlighting it! What do you think would make the interactable stuff more obvious that you can interact with it? Perhaps I should display a Z (or O) on screen above the player when you are next to them.
Hello Rob! I've played your game and really liked it! I'd like to contact you about an indie spotlight video of curiosity. If you're interested, please respond and we'll start communications. Thank you for making your game!
Interested in hearing about it at least, sure! Can you send me a DM on twitter @robsws?
I would love to! However, when I try it says you can't be messaged. So sorry about the inconvenience!
Sorry about that, should be fixed now!
This is terrific! It manages to convey a huge amount non-verbally and lets the puzzle emerge organically out of what the player observes, reminiscent of the excellent puzzle design in the Witness.
A couple of observations without spoilers:
1) The use of music tipped me off to something in a way that came from outside the game rather than within it. Maybe it's too purist, but I wonder if there's a way to have something diegetic (ie contained within the sensory reality of the game world) perform the same function?
2) There's a solution that doesn't require interacting with one of the rooms/fully exploring/gathering all items. (I'm not sure if this affected the outcome)
Thanks a lot for your feedback! With respect to the music, I see your point. There are a few tips (sound and visual) that are there to try and clue you in to the same thing. I just wanted to provide a few different ways of realising that point in case you missed one of the others, but having said that you're right that it's the only clue of that kind in the game and so perhaps it would be better to have something in its place. The second solution was actually caught by someone in playtesting, but I eventually decided to leave it in because I quite liked it. If you do make it to the end without using a certain item there's a little Easter egg in the credits!
